Create a theme with AI
Describe the colours you want, name a theme you like, or attach a screenshot. Try the result in your journal before saving it.
Start here
Enable AI features in Settings and add your own Gemini API key. Then open Settings → Appearance → Change how it looks, or ask the assistant directly.
Each theme includes light and dark versions. Colours are only the start: you can also change the corners, the borders and shadows, the glass behind the tab bar and pills, the typeface, and the switches, checkboxes and scrollbars.
Ask in plain words. “Warmer” or “less blue” changes colours; naming a material or a machine — paper, glass, a terminal, a newspaper — changes the rest with it.

A favourite theme
Replace Tokyo Night with Dracula, Solarized, or another theme you like. AI adapts the palette to Reflect; an exact match is not guaranteed.
Create a theme inspired by Tokyo Night: deep blue backgrounds, soft pale text, and blue and purple accents. Keep reading surfaces calm and dates easy to read. Carry the palette through the calendar, charts, Rediscover cards, and lock screen. Include a matching light version. No glow or animation.

Create a theme from the colours in this screenshot. Match the backgrounds, text, and main accent as closely as readability allows. Use the same colour family for charts, Rediscover cards, and the lock screen. Make a matching version for the other light or dark mode. Keep Reflect's layout.
A mood: The Matrix
Create a Matrix-inspired theme: near-black backgrounds, readable pale green text, brighter green accents, and a monospace font. Add faint scanlines and a restrained green glow on headings. Keep the page background solid and the theme still. Include a quiet light version with dark green ink.
Black monochrome
Create a black monochrome theme. In dark mode, use a true black page, slightly lighter cards, soft white text, and grey accents. Keep dates readable. Make Rediscover cards and charts monochrome too. In light mode, use white and pale grey with black ink. Keep the default font. No texture, glow, or animation.
Paper & ink
Create a Paper & Ink theme: warm off-white paper, charcoal text, a reading serif, and a muted brown accent. Add faint ruled lines like a notebook, small corners, and a soft paper-edge shadow. Keep borders subtle and backgrounds solid. Use related warm tones for charts and Rediscover cards. For dark mode, use warm charcoal with cream text. No glow or animation.
An old computer
This one changes shape as well as colour: square corners, thick bevelled edges, a pixel font and a wide scrollbar.
Make the app look like a nineties desktop: square corners, 2px bevelled borders, no blur and no shadows, rectangular toggles, a classic scrollbar, a pixel font, and a filled blue band across the top of dialogs. Turn off the sliding and fading. Use a soft teal page with grey panels, and a matching dark version.
Glass
Glass highlights can stop Safari on Mac from tinting its toolbar with the page. The assistant will say so before it uses them.
Make everything glass: see-through cards, a strong blur behind the tab bar and pills, deeper colour through the glass, and a bright hairline along the top edge of each one. Large soft corners, thin light borders, no hard shadows. Cool grey-blue in dark, near-white in light.
What you can ask for
Add one effect to a theme you already like. These short requests work as follow-ups:
Corners and edges
Rounded, softly rounded, or square corners, with hairlines from none to bold. Shadows can be soft, flat, or a crisp offset block.

Glass
The tab bar, the pills and the toasts sit on frosted glass. Change how see-through it is, how far it blurs, how deep the colour goes, and whether it catches a highlight along its top edge.

See-through cards
Let the page show through the cards. Text stays readable — the app measures the contrast against what ends up behind it.

Glowing text
A soft halo on screen titles, headings, reading text, or across the interface.

Glowing surfaces
A halo around cards, navigation pills, and accent buttons.
“Give the cards a soft violet glow.”
Gradients
Two-tone gradients for the page, accent buttons, Rediscover cards, and day covers without photos.
“Make all four Rediscover cards fade from deep blue to violet.”
Textures
Fine grain, a grid, scanlines, or ruled lines like a notebook, with adjustable strength and spacing. Corners can be darkened too.
“Add faint ruled lines, 28px apart, and darken the corners a little.”
Gentle motion
A slowly drifting page gradient or a texture that fades in and out. Each cycle takes 4–120 seconds.

Speed
Keep the app’s normal movement, make it about twice as fast, or switch it off so nothing slides or fades. Loading spinners keep turning either way.

Fonts
Six typefaces: the default, a reading serif, a high-contrast display serif, a grotesk, monospace, a pixel face, and handwriting. Headings can wear a different one from the text, and can be set in capitals.

Switches and buttons
Round, square, or the raised bevel of an older desktop. Toggles can be the sliding pill or a rectangular rocker, icons thinner or heavier, and the scrollbar thin or a wide classic lane.

Lock screen and privacy curtain
Tint the lock screen’s blurred orbs and its heading, or adjust the tint, softness, and strength of the privacy curtain’s washes and its text. The curtain stays still.

Less clutter
Hide selected navigation items, the header search button, or the Rediscover row.

Text glow stays off in the editor, input fields, and calendar year grid. Motion respects your device’s Reduce Motion setting. Page gradients and glass highlights can prevent Safari on Mac from matching its toolbar to the page. A classic scrollbar is drawn in Safari and Chrome; Firefox gets a thin one, and iPhones keep their own.
Adjust it, then save
The preview changes the app immediately. Look at your entries, calendar, and settings in both light and dark mode. Keep asking in the same conversation:
Keep this theme, but make the dates easier to read, soften the accent, and remove the glow. Leave everything else as it is.
Choose Save as new to keep it as another theme, Update to replace the current custom theme, or Cancel to discard the preview. Your saved themes are in Settings → Appearance; choose Default to return to the original look.
What to expect
Themes use Reflect’s own colours, materials and typefaces. They cannot add custom CSS, a font of their own, background images, or a new page layout — nothing a theme sets can move a button or change what it does. The app checks colour contrast and may adjust a requested colour, or drop one of two settings that contradict each other, to keep the result readable. It tells you on the card when it does.
